Payroll Assistant – EAG Automotive (Mount Pleasant, TX)

Pay: $15–$18 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday

 

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support accurate and timely payroll processing and recordkeeping. This position is responsible for reviewing time and payroll information, processing employee payroll changes, reconciling payroll records, responding to employee payroll questions, and maintaining accurate and confidential records in accordance with applicable regulations and organizational policies. The ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, and committed to accuracy and confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and timely in accordance with established semi-monthly payroll schedules.
  • Review employee timekeeping records for completeness and accuracy and follow up on discrepancies as needed.
  • Enter and maintain employee payroll information, including pay rates, deductions, direct deposits, tax information, benefit deductions, and other authorized payroll changes.
  • Verify payroll calculations and review payroll reports prior to final processing.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, confidential, and up-to-date payroll files and records in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations, record-retention requirements, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Process new hires, terminations, wage changes, deductions, garnishments, and other payroll-related transactions.
  • Respond professionally and confidentially to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, leave balances, and other payroll matters.
  • Assist with payroll tax reporting, year-end processing, and preparation and distribution of required payroll documents.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of employee payroll and personally identifiable information.
  • Monitor payroll procedures and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
  • Stay informed of changes affecting payroll practices and compliance requirements.
  • Perform other payroll, accounting, or administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting, business administration, human resources, or a related field preferred.
  • [2–3] years of payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with payroll and/or timekeeping systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of basic payroll practices, deductions, payroll taxes, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive employee information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and consistently meet payroll deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
